I think that the point of the Durant quote was not to commend the theory
but to suggest that the idea antedated the discovery of the scrolls and
their interpretation by Catholic scholars. Perhaps someone could
enlighten us concerning the Durants' backgrounds, but the observation is
certainly worth noting by anyone seeking to write the history of the
interpretation of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
