Dead Sea Navigation/Trade



I haven't been paying very close attention to this thread, so apologies if
this information is redundant.
Vol. 21 of 'Atiqot includes a couple of articles on stone anchors and
anchor ropes from the dead Sea near 'Ein Gedi.  The articles cite pertinent
evidence, such as archaeological remains of other 'anchorages' at Rujm
el-Bahr and Qasr el-Yehud, as well as mentioning Diodorus statement on the
procurement of asphalt by boat on the Dead Sea by Antigonus in 312 BCE, and
the resulting battle with 6000 Arabs on rafts of reeds
