“On Books and Their Collectors: The Qumran ‘Library’ and Early Christian Book
Collections”
Daniel Stoekl Ben Ezra
The paper compares Qumran as “library” with various early Christian book
collections (private intellectual, congregational, monastic) mainly from Egypt
(Chester Beatty, Oxyrhynchus, Bodmer, Abba Elias, St. Gallen) regarding
extent, contents, organization, clients and purpose in order to put the find
into its historical and phenomenological context.
