Halakhic Elements in the Aramaic Levi Document
This paper examines in detail the main part of the preserved Aramaic Levi Document, namely the sacrificial laws. Included here is material preserved in all three sources, the Genizah copy, the Greek text, and the Qumran fragments, as well as reflected in the Testament of Levi. Specifically, the laws are carefully described and compared with other traditions regarding sacrificial law, primarily from Second Temple period literature and tannaitic tradition. The biblical sources are also examined. This study intends to locate the sacrificial halakhic traditions of the text in the context of the various views that circulated in Second Temple times and observes striking similarities with tannaitic rulings regarding the daily sacrifices.
