Mussar La-mevin (4QInstruction) _a Sectarian Wisdom The recent publication of the substantial remains from the sapiential work 4QInstruction (DJD XXXIV) offers a rare opportunity to enlarge and deepen our understanding of the Qumran community ideology. The sectarian character of this work is indicated by numerous terminological and ideological links with the distinctive sectarian works such as the Rule of the Community and the Hodayot. But 4QInstruction not only widens and nuances the concise ideological statements of the Rule or the Hodayot, but adds a dimension hitherto unknown: the practical application of the elevated theological principles in everyday life. |
