AN EVENING WITH PROFESSOR EMANUEL TOV

Thursday, 17 February, 2000 (6:30 to 9:00pm)

You are invited to a very special evening with Professor Emanuel Tov,
Editor in Chief of the Dead Sea Scrolls Project and one of Israel's
greatest scholars. In this special visit to Western Canada and the Pacific
Northwest, Professor Tov will deliver a public lecture, which will not be
technical but aimed at the thinking layperson. Following his lecture,
Professor Tov will answer questions from the floor. He will also sign
copies of his ground-breaking books, including the Textual Criticism of the
Hebrew Bible (Fortress Press, 1992), voted the best book relating to the
Old Testament in 1993 by the Biblical Archaeological Society. Other books
on the Dead Sea Scrolls will also be available for purchase. In order to
defray expenses, there is a fee of $15 CN or $10 US for this special event.
The audience will be limited to 150, so advance booking is strongly
recommended to secure a seat!

	6:30-7:00 pm 	Book signing

	7:00-7:15 pm 	Slide show on the Dead Sea Scrolls and the
Editorial Team

	7:15-8:30 pm 	Lecture followed by questions from the floor

Professor Emanuel Tov was raised in the Netherlands and then emigrated to
Israel, where he received his B.A. (1964), M.A. (1967), and Ph.D. (1973,
summa cum laude), at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. From 1967-1969 he
pursued postgraduate studies at Harvard University. Professor Tov has held
several teaching positions at the Hebrew University (from Teaching Fellow
to the J. L. Magnes chair in Bible), and has served as Visiting Professor
at universities in the USA (including Harvard), the United Kingdom
(Oxford), the Netherlands, South Africa, and Australia. He has written or
edited over 45 books, has authored over 150 articles, and is the recipient
of many prestigious international awards.
