orion-list VanderKam on Essene etymology in DSS After 50 yrs. v. 2

The Dead Sea Scrolls After Fifty Years: A Comprehensive Assessment, volume
2 is now available. (Peter Flint and James VanderKam, ed.; Leiden: Brill,
1999). This large volume includes much of interest, IMO.
For example, it includes 3 Appendices: Index of Passages in the
Biblical Scrolls (by Ulrich); Passages from the Apocrypha and
Previously-Known Writings ("Pseudepigrapha") in the Scrolls (Flint); A List
of the Texts from the Judaean Desert (Tov).
In "Identity and History of the Community" James VanderKam argues
in favor of the etymology of "Essenes" from Hebrew 'asah.
