"The Essenes were an offshoot of the Samaritans" ?!  Is this YOUR
opinion, or your
opinion of Epiphanius's opinion?  The idea that the Essenes are NOT a
part of the Babylonian/Jewish stream is a complete non-starter.  Do I
misunderstand you?
