orion Qumran Ostracon- A New Proposal
In the current issue of BAR (arrived today), Ada Yardeni offers a new
proposal for the ostracon. The opening sentence- "With all due respect to
my distinguished colleagues Frank Moore Cross ... and Esther Eshel..., their
reading of the recently excavated and already famous ostracon from Qumran
is, in a word, impossible" (p. 44). Yardeni offers a new reconstruction and
a new and improved reading of the ostracon.
Very well done by Yardeni, and much more persuasive than Cross and Eshel.
