DIRECTOR OF HEBREW LANGUAGE PROGRAMS AT THE JEWISH THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY OF
AMERICA

The Jewish Theological Seminary of American invites applications for the
position of Director of Hebrew Language Programs, academic rank open,
beginning Fall, 1998 or later.

This leadership position entails promoting and sustaining Hebrew language
and culture at JTS and fulfilling academic, teaching, and administrative
responsibilities as Chair of the Department of Hebrew Language, which
services all Seminary schools Undergraduate, Graduate, Rabbinical,
cantorial and Education). The New York campus encompasses a student body
exceeding 600 and a faculty of some one hundred scholars. Further

Ideal applicants will have a Ph.D. in Hebrew language instruction or a
related field and possess an outstanding command of the language, a strong
commitment to the field of foreign language pedagogy, and a high level of
scholarly achievement or promise. Candidates should have a demonstrated
record of excellence teaching classical and modern Hebrew at the
university level;  experience in design of curricula, learning materials
and assessment tools;  familiarity with instructional technology; and an
ability to administer such programs. Effective communication kills in
English are required.
