There are many problems with Prof. West's idea, but one in particular
should be taken account of. It does no justice to the wide
variety of text types attested at Qumran. Were the Samuel and Jeremiah
manuscripts found at Qumran all Hebrew translations of different
Greek recensions? Were these many Greek recensions considered equally
sacred by the sectarians?
