Mr Smalling,

While I accept that the staff at the Illustrator would not appreciate
being called "semi literate dilettantes" (I'm sure they weren't supposed
to) the fact that they publish aimed at Sunday Schools is of little
relevance. I have, I admit, not seen the publication in question, but if
as is suggested the photograph bears no resemblance to what was claimed,
then this sort of comment is entirely valid.

I am entirely in favour of the scrolls being introduced to a wider
audience, but not where they are used as a selling point for a
publication, and where, moreover, there has been no attempt to research a
particular issue - especially not to verify that a photograph represents
what is claimed. The scrolls forum is muddled as it is, with minor (and
normally incorrect) views gaining the credance over and against long
established verifiable arguments, to allow such forays to pass
unchallenged.
