By 1st CE, Hannakuh and Tabernacles had both become Festivals
which shared lights as a common element. You are no doubt familiar with
Jo-
sephus's Antiquities 12:7:7. But VanderKam maintains that the original
meaning
of the lights has been lost (Journal for the Study of the Pseud. 1:23-40)
and I
think Judith is quite right about the later date for the miracle of the
oil story.
