Of course, this cuts both ways: one need not resort to the dogmatic and 
evidenceless Essene theory to explain it, either.  Considering the 
type and size of the structures, the way the analysis of the 
"scriptorium" was so totally hosed up to make it fit the Essene 
hypothesis, and loads of other problems (you really need to read 
Golb), I would conclude that the Essene hypothesis is the one that is 
truly "evidenceless" and the fort theory has much more behind it.
