AOS Greenfield Prize

                        Greenfield Prize
The American Oriental Society is pleased to announce the establishment of
a new prize to honor the memory of the eminent Semitist and long-term AOS
member, Jonas C. Greenfield.  The "Greenfield Prize" carries a cash award
of $1000 and will be granted biannually to a scholar under 40 at the time
of sub-mission, for the best published article in any area of Semitic
studies that has appeared during the 2 year period of review.  The
selection will be made by recommendation of an AOS committee and the
announcement of the first award will be made in October 1997.  Scholars
are invited to submit offprints of their articles and a Curriculum Vitae
to the American Oriental Society, Harlan Hatcher Library, University of
Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1205.  Please clearly mark the envelope
"Greenfield Prize." 
        Deadline for submission for the first award is May 15, 1997.
