At the risk of being considered a scholarly archeologist, I might point out that the late E.Y. Kutscher made a strong case (not equally convincing in all details) for the continuation of use of Hebrew. This was, if my memory does not betray me, in the first section of his book on the language of the Isaiah scroll. Why is this being treated as an either / or question? M. Stone
